Both the GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox are manufactured by GM, and with either of these compact SUVs, you’ll enjoy an almost identical list of standard features. So why choose one over the other? This Terrain vs. Equinox comparison from Capital GMC Buick will highlight the differences between the two in order to help you decide which will best serve your Edmonton driving needs.

Terrain vs. Equinox: Standard Features

With either the Equinox or the Terrain, you’ll find many of the same comfort, convenience, and tech features offered as standard in the entry level models. Both can provide seating for up to 5 and include:

  • Front bucket seats
  • Heated front seats
  • Fold-flat rear seat with 60/40 split
  • Bluetooth® connectivity
  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi
  • 7-inch diagonal touchscreen
  • 6-speaker audio system
  • Rearview camera

The entry-level model of the new Terrain also comes with several features that are not offered with the entry-level Equinox LS. These Terrain SLE features include:

  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • 8-way power driver’s seat
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™capability
  • Front-to-back load floor

Terrain vs. Equinox: Performance

As with the standard features, the Equinox and Terrain performance specs are nearly identical. Each comes with a standard 1.5L turbo four-cylinder engine that generates 170 hp with 203 lb-ft of torque. The Equinox is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the Terrain gets a 9-speed automatic transmission. Both SUVs feature standard front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive as an available option.

Upper trims of these models offer a 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder engine that delivers 252 hp with 260 lb-ft of torque. The Equinox with the 2.0L engine comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The Equinox and Terrain tow rating is 680 litres with the 1.5L engine and 1,588 litres with the 2.0L engine. That’s enough to haul a small travel trailer or boat on your next adventure outside of Leduc.
